Event Details

On Tuesday, October 30, 2012, at 7 p.m. at the Fishers Library, and again on Wednesday, November 14, at 7 p.m. at the Noblesville Library, Attorney Jeffery D. Stinson will discuss the legal aspects of guardianships. For those who fail to plan for their incapacity, a guardianship may be needed. A guardianship is a court proceeding whereby one individual is given the authority to make financial and medical decisions for another individual if he or she can no longer make such decisions. This program will discuss what a guardianship is, how one can establish a guardianship, and what authority a Court can give a guardian. The presenter will also discuss how to avoid guardianship by planning for one’s own incapacity. Mr. Stinson is the managing partner of Severns & Stinson and has been with the firm since 1998. His practice focuses on elder law, estate planning, long term care planning, Medicaid planning, Veteran’s Administration benefits planning, special needs planning, guardianships, and estate administration. Registration is required for this presentation. To register contact the library at 776-6939 or, register online at www.hepl.lib.in.us.
